Year: 1982–1984

The plates for 1982–1984 are lighter steel than the 1985–1990 series, painted white with red lettering. The backs of the plates are unpainted. These plates have short, oval slots. The plates with the goldpanner have a small "nugget" of gold paint in the gold pan; the goldpanner is embossed. Some plates in this series have a light gray background; others have a white background.

Coloured year validation stickers were issued for 1982–1984.
